EYFS EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM OVERVIEW – Year R

Our curriculum goals represent the overarching plan for all the experiences we want children to have during Year R, preparing them for future learning. These goals outline what we teach, when we teach it, and what children will learn.
Our Priority is on:

Communication and Language:
•    Communication and language are at the heart of our curriculum because they underpin all other learning areas.

Building Knowledge and Skills:
•    Our curriculum is designed to progressively build knowledge and skills, becoming more challenging throughout the year. This includes introducing new words, skills, and knowledge.
Evidence-Informed and Annually Reviewed:
•    We ensure our curriculum is evidence-based and reviewed every year to stay current and effective.
Clear Communication with Staff and Parents:
•    Our curriculum is clearly outlined and communicated with both staff and parents, ensuring everyone is engaged and ready to support children in achieving key milestones.
Play-Based Learning:
•    Learning is play-based and occurs both indoors and outdoors.
Balanced Learning Experiences:
•    There is a balance between adult-initiated (guided learning) and child-initiated experiences.
Child-Centered Approach:
•    We start with each child's interests and strengths, recognizing them as competent learners. This approach ensures a supportive and engaging environment for children to thrive.
